Starbucks goes ‘trenta’ on larger iced drinks

Seattle, WA, United States (AHN) – Starbucks will begin selling beverages in a larger size this week in selected states.

According to ABC television, the company will start rolling out 31-ounce “trenta” cups for iced drinks on Tuesday in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Texas and 10 other states, and on Feb.1 in California.

Trenta-sized drinks will be available nationwide by May 3. They will cost 50 cents more than beverages in the soon to be second-largest size, Venti.

Trenta has been available in selected stores for the past few months but the company’s decision to start offering it officially received mixed reactions from coffee drinkers and baristas in online forums.

“It is ridiculous, but there is so much ice in it, it really only has 16 ounces of liquid,” commented a poster named rikkilee.

“We had a post about this months ago when it first came out, and the general consensus was split down the middle between love and hate. I, personally, enjoy having an iced passion tea lemonade that lasts throughout my classes,” said kikkomato.

“It’s strange that this size is being introduced in the middle of winter,” Venti Urnex Latte said, to which a another user replied that the states chosen for the roll-out all have warm weather.

The change follows Starbucks’ announcement in early January that it was removing its name from its iconic logo. The updated green ring around a black and white Siren will be launched in March and is part of the company’s observance of its 40th anniversary.

UNESCO Names French Cuisine As “Intangible World Heritage”

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
AHN News Staff

Nairobi, Kenya (AHN) – The United Nations’ cultural organization, UNESCO, has named the French multi-course gastronomic meal to the Convention of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Gathered in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, the UNESCO experts said the French gastronomic meal was featured on the UNESCO’s world heritage list because of its presentation and rites. Catherine Colonna, the French ambassador to UNESCO, welcomed the decision and said it made a contribution to cultural diversity.

“The French love getting together to eat and drink well and enjoy good times in such a manner. It is part of our tradition – a quite active tradition,” she added.

Francis Chevrier, chief delegate of the French mission, also hailed the decision. “It’s very important that people realize, in villages in Africa and everywhere, that when you have knowledge of food it is a treasure for your community, and something worth cherishing,” he said. “It’s wonderful. This is excellent news for French culture, for French heritage, to invite our cuisine, our gastronomic heritage to sit at the high table of culture at UNESCO,” Chevrier added.

However, UNESCO’s decision has also sparked concerns that people might use its heritage label for their commercial benefit.

Out of 51 cultural practices around the world, four elements, including China’s Turkish-speaking Muslim Uighur people’s harvest festival ceremony – Meshrep, Croatian Ojkanje singing and two other Chinese cultural practices have been included on the Convention of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Restaurant Loans Can Lead to Success

Friday, May 28th, 2010

If there’s one thing restaurant owners can learn from Wolfgang Puck, it’s never to give up. Their journeys to success may not be as extreme as the famous chef/entrepreneur, who began as a cooking apprentice in Austria at the age of 14, then moved to France four years later and “…wrote letter after letter to all the two- and three-star restaurants,” as he told Inc.com, until he was finally hired. For some, it may be as simple as letting go of age-old ideas and traditions and applying for a merchant cash advance when business loans don’t come through.

The circumstances and stories will differ as greatly as the types of restaurants these small business owners own, but the decision to work hard and adapt to change in order to succeed is what’s important.

If a lack of business funding is the problem, a business cash advance can be the solution. Many merchants that don’t qualify for bank loans do qualify for restaurant cash advances. Virtually, any restaurant owner who has owned his/her business for at least six months, processes a minimum of $3,500 in monthly credit card sales, has no unresolved bankruptcies and has at least one year remaining on his/her restaurant’s lease will qualify for a restaurant cash advance of up to $500,000.

Merchants who choose to take advantage of a merchant cash advance for their restaurants have the freedom to use the funds for equipment upgrades, purchases of inventory, expansion, advertising, or anything else they can think of that can potentially improve their businesses. Then, they can renew their funds every three to four months.

Choosing a restaurant advance may be the decision that takes your business from good to great. It may be the decision that keeps you from having to close your doors. Get a free online quote today and find out how much you can receive for your restaurant.
