Higher Corn Prices Mean Higher Turkey Prices As T-Day Approaches

Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – Higher prices for turkeys will make Thanksgiving dinner more expensive and means some people who rely on food banks will have to do without a traditional holiday dinner.

The culprit is higher feed prices that have caused an approximate 2 percent drop in production, leading to a 28 percent jump in the wholesale price of turkey over a year ago. Frozen turkeys rose to $1.09 a pound on average Thursday, which was the highest price ever recorded.

Corn is the main ingredient in turkey feed, accounting for 70 percent of the ingredients. Therefore, the fact that corn prices rose by 47 percent in the past year had a huge impact on the cost of raising turkeys.

Look for prices to rise further as competition for corn is heating up because corn is not only used in food for human consumption and in animal feed, but also in the manufacturing of ethanol fuel for vehicles.

U.S. Department of Agriculture officials expect turkey production to fall 1.3 percent this year to 5.514 billion pounds.

Although retailers usually discount turkey prices around holiday time, analysts do not expect to see deep discounts this season because there is not much wiggle room for retailers to sell birds at a steep discount without taking severe losses.

Agriculture Department officials estimate wholesale turkey prices for eastern markets will run about $1 to $1.04 during the fourth quarter of this year compared to 84 cents per pound for Q4 2009. Retail prices for frozen turkeys were $157 per pound in September, the highest prices since 1980 and 7.7 percent higher than a year ago.

Food banks around the country, including some in California and Texas, are already saying they do not expect to have enough turkeys to hand out to poor families this year.

Dennys – A Decent Little Cafe

If you were playing a word association game, the word “Denny’s,” wouldn’t be confused with “gourmand” or “high of the line.” It’s not a place known for luxurious accomodations, or five famous person cuisine. Denny’s is merely a smart place to urge a meal, when an evening of partying or before daily of fishing. The majority of of their locations are open 24 hours every day/twelve months a year, which them convenient for these purposes. Denny’s has been around since the 50′s, when the first location was opened in California by Harold Butler. They currently have over 1600 locations in the United States, with over one thousand of those being franchised possessed. This suggests that Denny’s is the the majority of important full service family vogue restaurant in the country, and they’re visible in communities on both the East and West coasts. The majority of of them are located off of primary intersections, or by exits on interstates. This typically leads to an interesting clientele, and Denny’s has had issues with how individuals are treated.

Although Denny’s is known for its positive commercials,including the one where the woman refers to it as “Lenny’s”, this chain has had some valid issues in the last decade. There were various incidents of poor service involving minorities, including a well publicized 1 with a cluster of United States Secret Service agents. When lawsuits and boycotts, Denny’s finally set to increase its diversity training. They have a zero tolerance policy for any sort of discrimination, and have signed charters with African Yank and Hispanic advocacy teams to increase opportunities for minorities in the company. Additionally, Denny’s has been a good corporate citizen towards underprivileged youngsters, as they’re a serious sponsor of the organization “Save the Children.” Every year they donate some of their proceeds to the present, and even sell merchandise like ties,shirts, and hats to bring it required funding. I have been in Denny’s many times, and at a heap of their locations in the Mid Atlantic Region. I’ve got never seen any activity that would seem to be discriminatory, and my acquaintances are diverse and eclectic. Service could be a serious issue with Denny’s, as all locations have a ton of inconsistency. It is either outstanding, or bottom of the barrel. I have been striveing to find a contented medium for years in this regard, but it is just not possible. A heap of this is often due to the dimensions of the crowds, and how fast they’re arriving at the restaurant. On Friday and Saturday nights, there is invariably a substantial anticipate a table in non-smoking or the smoking sections.

The neat half concerning Denny’s, is that you’ll order breakfast at any time of day. But, when a night of drinking at my local bar, I usually opt for the appetizer/dinner menu. Denny’s lunch/dinner menu encompasses a lot of alternatives also, and their menu things include: Chicken Strips, Turkey and Stuffing, Steak Dinner, Fish and Chips, Country Fried Chicken, Steak and Shrimp, Classic Burger, Bacon Double Cheese Burger, Mushroom Burger, BLT, Boca Burger(Vegetarian), Club Sandwiches, Super Birds, Delidingers, Chicken Melts, etc. Their burgers are to be avoided. Although the Boca Burger may be a Soy Burger, I’m convinced the rest of their line has that as a additive. I can not prove this, but they’re disgusting.

The standard is at the lowest common demoninator, and it does not matter if you raise for it charred. You will still style how nasty it’s. For all of my vegetarian acquaintances(I am sorry, I am unable to do it), there are more options to settle on from then the Boca Burger. There’re salads which include: garden salad. They do not provide much, I’m sorry! If you like salad with meat, then you’ll be able to select from their Chef, Taco, Fried Chicken Strip, and Grilled Chicken Breast varieties. I can not say how smart they are, since I have never ordered any of them. However, their soups are quite decent, and style recent and yummy. Their soups are chicken noodle, broccoli and cheddar, clam chowder, and vegetable beef. Whoever created their Clam Chowder is from Spanking new England-it is very good.

Business Etiquette – Dinner With Investors

If you have potential investors flying in from another part of the country, you are likely to have them for dinner. Meals can be a pitfall in any relationship, either business or personal. Many people judge your ability to select a restaurant, pick wine, and sit through a meal as a proxy for how you conduct your life. If you are unable to do these things with appropriate acumen, you will likely be judged unfit to receive funding, especially if the investor is on the fence about your company.

Manners are about making other people feel comfortable and behavior that is seen as disrespectful, discourteous or abrasive is usually unintentional.

Here are some basics to get through a dinner with an investor.

  • Pick a mid-level restaurant with good food. Select a restaurant that has a variety of choices on the menu including a vegetarian selection.
  • Make a reservation. If the restaurant you pick doesn’t take reservations, pick another restaurant.
  • Dress to match the dress of your guests. If they are wearing suits, wear a suit. If they are wearing jackets, wear a jacket. Err on the conservative side. Regardless of the dress, be neat, clean shaven, and wear unwrinkled clothing.
  • If the guests are coming in their own car, make sure they have good directions. Arrive a little early – always make sure you arrive before your guest.
  • Allow your guests to select their own seats, but encourage your team to sit between the guests to facilitate better conversation. If you have two people who are better conversationalists, have them sit on opposite sides of the table to keep conversation flowing. Arrange this before you arrive at the restaurant.
  • If you are expected to pick the wine, be prepared. If you are not a wine connoisseur, call the restaurant ahead of time and ask to speak to the sommelier. He or she should be able to give you some good mid-range wines in both white and red.
  • When you site down, remember that your bread plate is on the left and your drinks are on your right. During the meal, use your flatware from the outside in. Put your napkin in your lap. If you would like bread, salt and pepper, butter, etc., as for it to be passed, don’t reach over someone for it.
  • When selecting your meal, pick one that is easy to eat and does not have a tendency to leave distracting bits of food in your teeth. Take a bite of food and put your flatware down before chewing and swallowing. Don’t talk with any food in your mouth.
  • Don’t drink too much.
  • Some business talk at the table is okay, but don’t let it overwhelm the conversation. Stay off of topics that may be sensitive, sex, politics and religion are good ones to avoid. A good way to avoid saying something stupid is just to ask a lot of questions and let your guests do all the talking.
  • If none of your guests order coffee or dessert, then you should not either. If they do, then at least one or more of your team should do the same. This can be tricky because they may not want to order first. In this case, you should judge how you think they feel and follow that instinct.
  • Pay. They are your guests, you are expected to pay.

In general, good business etiquette is about making people feel comfortable and valued. If you provide a nice meal with good conversation, then you have succeeded even if you accidentally use the wrong fork.

Disney World Dining – The Coral Reef

Prepare to dine “under the sea” at this gourmet seafood dining location and live on the edge of a living coral reef! This dining location is located at “The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends.” From the entrance, continue past Spaceship Earth and turn right after the Innoventions Plaza, before the fountain. Continue until you pass under the building overhang and then make the first right and continue until you see the blue building of the Living Seas.

This extraordinary dining location has an aquarium wall with 8 foot high windows with incredible views of the underwater life. Seating is tiered which assures everyone is able to see this aquatic display. Lighting is subdued and the interior is decorated in soothing shades of blue and green which enhance the underwater effect. In addition to freshly prepared seafood, meat, chicken and vegetarian selections are offered.

Both lunch and dinner is served at this dining location and the Coral Reef has an extensive selection of menu items to choose from. Appetizer selections give you chilled shrimp, New England Cod Cake and Sea Land which is grilled shrimp with cucumber salad and barbecued beef skewer with creamy Polenta.

Lunch entrees offer you grilled pork chops, blackened catfish, grilled New York strip steak, lobster salad, grilled mahimahi, grilled chicken breast, bbq salmon sandwich, Caesar salad, pesto risotto and pan seared tilapia. Lunch desserts offer citrus creme brulee, Bavarian cheesecake, the chocolate wave and Bailey’s and Jack Daniel’s Mousse. Drinks include: non-alcoholic specialty drinks and a selection of bottled beer, draft beer, half bottles of wine, martinis, specialty drinks and wines by the glass.

Dinner entrees include: pan-seared Ahi tuna, seared sterling salmon, shrimp pasta, grilled pork chops, grilled chicken breast, grilled New York strip steak, pesto risotto, blackened catfish and grilled mahi-mahi.

Appetizers, desserts and drinks are all the same for lunch and dinner. Lunch hours are from 12pm until 3pm and dinner hours are from 4:30pm until 8pm. Menu items are under $35.00 per person. Remember that prices and menu items are subject to change at any time.
